Johnny Bower is best remembered as the Toronto Maple Leafs starting goalie for 11 years. Bower helped lead his Original 6 team to a total of 4 Stanley Cup Championships. What many people don’t know about Bower is that he didn’t establish himself as the Leafs number one goalie until the ripe old age of 34. Prior to joining the Leafs, Bower played an incredible 13 years in the minors. In fact, it took Bower 8 years in the minors before he suited up for his first NHL game for the New York Rangers.

Come celebrate the GRAND OPENING of our new store, Breakaway Authentics! Toronto Maple Leaf hockey legend, Doug Gilmour will be joining us for a FREE meet and greet on August 11th, between 12:30 and 1:30. Doug Gilmour will also be conducting a FREE autograph signing. Breakaway Authentics will be providing a limited number of photos for this event. No other hockey memorabilia will be signed as time is limited. A private autograph signing with Doug Gilmour will occur at a later date. Magic Johnson, Larry Bird and Michael Jordan Signed Photo

If you are looking for a signed Michael Jordan photo, check this one out. This professionally framed photograph titled ‘The Legends of Basketball’ has not only been signed by Michael Jordan but has also been signed by Magic Johnson and Larry Bird as well. This fantastic piece of memorabilia measures 53 1/2 inches wide by 28 1/2 inches tall. This item comes with a certificate of authenticity from Upper Deck. This is a limited edition print numbered out of 500.

Michael Jordan won six NBA Championships while he was a member of the Chicago Bulls. Michael Jordan was awarded five League MVP awards, fourteen NBA All-Star Game appearances, three All-Star Game MVP awards, ten scoring titles, three steals titles, six NBA Finals MVP awards, and the 1988 NBA Defensive Player of the Year Award. Michael Jordan holds the NBA records for highest career regular season scoring average (30.12 points per game) and highest career playoff scoring average (33.45 points per game). In 1999, he was named the greatest North American athlete of the 20th century by ESPN. Michael Jordan was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2009.

Magic Johnson played for the LA Lakers and his career achievements include five NBA Championships. Magic Johnson also won three NBA MVP Awards, twelve All-Star games, and ten All-NBA First and Second Team nominations. He led the league in regular-season assists four times, and is the NBA’s all-time leader in assists per game, with an average of 11.2. Magic Johnson was honoured as one of the 50 Greatest Players in NBA history in 1996, and enshrined in the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2002. Magic Johnson was rated the greatest NBA point guard of all time by ESPN in 2007.

Larry Bird started at small forward and power forward for thirteen seasons with the Boston Celtics. Larry Bird won three NBA Championships. Due to chronic back problems, he retired as a player in 1992. Larry Bird was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1998.

Hockey Jersey Framing – One Customers Experience With Breakaway Authentics

Hockey Jersey Framing

While at a local sports card and collectible show, a man came up to the Breakaway Authentics booth with an arm full of hockey jerseys and enquired about our custom hockey jersey framing services. There were five jerseys in all, a Phil Kessel, a Mario Lemieux, a Bobby Hull, a Bobby Orr and a Guy Lafleur. After closer inspection, I noticed that none of the hockey jerseys had been autographed. This was a bit of an unusual request as custom hockey jersey framing is our specialty but the vast majority of our customers come in with autographed sports memorabilia for custom framing.

Not being one to turn any customers away, I filled out the paperwork and told the customer that his jerseys would be ready in a week. After some thought that evening, I contacted the customer again and asked him if he would be interested in having signed pictures included with his jerseys. My thinking was that this small addition would turn these jerseys into legitimate show pieces. He was all for it. I then told him that I could do better than a signed photo for the Guy Lafleur jersey. I asked him if he would like to have this jersey personally signed buy Guy Lafleur himself. Earlier that day I had contacted my suppliers and secured prices for the individual signed hockey photos but I also learned that Guy Lafleur would be holding a private autograph session with one of our distributors. Needless to say the customer was ecstatic.

All photos included in this entry are of this customer’s framed hockey jerseys which include the autographed 8 x 10 photos.

This is just a small example of how we at Breakaway Authentics go that extra step for our customers.

Hockey Stick Display Options

Hockey Stick Display Options

Here are a few different options for anyone looking for hockey stick display options.

So, you have just come home from a game and you are lucky enough to have received a game used hockey stick from one of your favourite players. Now you have to decide on a method of hockey stick display.

Option 1

Probably the easiest but definitely not the most aesthetic would be to pound a couple of broad head nails into the wall and just let the stick rest on top of the nails. This definitely serves the purpose but you risk possibly damaging the stick and as mentioned before, the look leaves quite a bit to be desired.

Option 2

I have come across a couple of different products specifically made for hockey stick display. My favourite so far is made by a company called Breakaway Displays. As a side note, Breakaway Displays is in no way affiliated with Breakaway Authentics. These hockey stick mounts come in packs of 2, are very easy to install and are very nearly invisible.

My only concern with these mounting devices is that I have come across some sticks that are too wide for use with these mounts. They seem to work for displaying the majority of hockey sticks but to be sure, I would recommend taking measurements of the stick width prior to ordering. Option 3

Now, what if you were lucky enough to have a game used hockey stick from the likes of Bobby Orr, Wayne Gretzky or your favourite player and you don’t want that stick to be hanging on the wall and exposed? By far the best looking, not to mention the most expensive option would be to have the stick professionally framed. The different variations for this option are nearly limitless. You could have just the stick framed or go so far as having the stick framed with a photo of the player, a team puck and possibly even team hockey gloves.
